On July 20, 2024, we embarked on a short but memorable trip to our family reunion at Sam Stowe Campground. Nestled in central Utah, the campground offered a perfect setting for reconnecting with loved ones and enjoying the great outdoors. We returned home on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, with full hearts and plenty of stories to tell.
We stayed at the group site, which was ideal for our large gathering. There was ample room for three RV trailers and plenty of spots for tents, making it easy for everyone to set up their preferred accommodations. Despite being the middle of summer, the weather was surprisingly pleasant, with cool breezes and comfortable temperatures that made outdoor activities enjoyable throughout our stay.
A highlight of the trip was floating the nearby Sevier River—a fun and refreshing activity we enjoyed as an entire family. The calm, cool waters and beautiful surroundings made it a relaxing adventure for all ages. We floated the river a couple of times, splashing and playing as we drifted downstream. The kids’ laughter and the adults’ shared joy made these moments truly special.
Our first float included an unexpected challenge. Our trusty two-person tube encountered a formidable opponent in the form of a large and sharp tree limb, resulting in a puncture. With quick thinking, we managed to save ourselves and our young grandson. I floated the remainder of the journey with the help of my life preserver, enjoying the water from a different perspective. While unplanned, this little mishap added a touch of excitement to our adventure and gave us a story to laugh about later.
In addition to the river activities, we spent our days catching up, sharing meals, and simply enjoying each other’s company. The campsite’s layout made it easy to gather for group meals and activities while still allowing for quiet moments to relax and take in the scenic views. From toddlers to grandparents, everyone found something to love about the trip.
As our time at Sam Stowe Campground came to an end, we reflected on the memories we had created. The combination of outdoor adventures, family bonding, and the beauty of central Utah made this reunion unforgettable. We returned home on Tuesday, grateful for the opportunity to reconnect and already looking forward to our next family gathering.
