Oro Valley, Arizona

On Saturday, March 8, 2025, we left our home for a journey to Oro Valley, Arizona, just north of Tucson. Given that it is roughly 800 miles to our destination, we stopped for a night in Las Vegas on the way there and the trip home. While in Oro Valley, we parked our trailer at the home of our son’s family. It was great; they have an electrical hookup for our trailer as well as a water spigot. It was very enjoyable visiting with them, soaking up the pleasant weather, and enjoying the area.

After driving south for roughly 400 miles, we stopped for the night at the Oasis RV Park in Las Vegas, Nevada, and parked our trailer at site 141. Oasis is a huge RV park with a small store, cafe, pool, and on-site services such as RV cleaning, repair, and awning repair. That evening, we took an Uber to a nice Chinese restaurant called Mr Chow that is housed on the second floor of the Caesars Palace. The food was delicious and the service was great.

Afterwards we walked to “The Sphere” which is a dome shaped building with thousands of LEDs used to form a dome shaped digital screen, quite spectacular. We took Uber back to the RV park, arranged a few things for our early departure, and went to bed early.

On Sunday morning, March 9, 2025, we left for Oro Valley, hoping to arrive at 1:30 p.m. for a baby blessing. I tried to be as quiet as possible while I dumped the trailer tanks, put everything away, and attached the trailer to the truck. We pulled away at about 4:00 a.m. We arrived at our destination about noon and had time to set up the trailer, dress for church, and bless our newest grandson. At church we met our first desert friend, some sort of lizard.

While in Oro Valley, we visited the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. We had a wonderful time walking the trails, viewing the desert animals, and seeing interesting cacti. One of my favorites is the Saguaro cactus. They evidently don’t grow arms until they are over 50 years old. The one pictured here must be older than me. We also visited a botanic garden and ate at many fun and interesting cafes and restaurants. I think the favorite food of the week was the numerous servings of ice cream we chose to eat. The kids loved the ice cream cones we had at Handel’s – super yummy.

After many visits, walks, meals, and a couple of puzzles, it was time for us to head back home. We left at about 9 a.m. on Sunday, March 16, 2025, and returned to the Oasis RV Park in Las Vegas. That night, we enjoyed excellent steaks at Don’s and got a deserved sleep. The next morning while I was taking care of the trailer, Linda sought out a Pinkbox Doughnut shop to acquire our tasty and completely unhealthy breakfast, lunch, and late night snack. We pulled out about 9 a.m. in an attempt to stay ahead of high einds that were expected to come later in the day. We beat the winds home and arrived safely before dark. What a great trip and visit with our loved ones.
